All over Scotland people will be celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the famous poet Robert Burns.
Born 25 January 1759 in Ayrshire, Scotland, died 21 July 1796, aged 37 years in Dumfries, Scotland.

January - November - Scottish National Portrait Gallery:
The Scottish National Portrait Gallery provides a unique visual history of Scotland, told through the portraits of those who shaped it. It explores the lives of great Scots, past and present, who have inspired and changed the world - royals and rebels, poets and philosophers, heroes and villains. In 2009 five iconic paintings from the collection, reflecting the five themes of Homecoming, will be “on tour” across Scotland in celebration of Homecoming.

May to October - Roots and Boughs: Summer in the Straths:
Homecomers are invited by the communities of Mackay Country to explore its exceptional landscapes, beauty and history. Join us for a magical events’ programme in a wide variety of inspirational venue across the north west Sutherland.

July 18-19 - Masters World Championships at Inverness Highland Games:
Join us at the spectacular Inverness Highland Games for the Masters World Championships. As part of the Homecoming celebrations the Highland Capital will welcome over 100 Veteran Heavies to the famous Bught Park Area on the banks of the River Ness. August 7 - 8 - Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival
Now in its 6th year, Belladrum is an eagerly anticipated landmark in the Scottish Festival calendar. The family-friendly yet eccentric weekend aims to reunite Homecoming Highlanders in spectacular surroundings at the same time putting on an eccentric line up of music and performing arts, including Burns and a'that.

September 4 - 12 - Blas Festival:
A warm welcome awaits you in the Highland for the 2009 Blas Festival. Blas is the Gaelic word for “taste” and the 2009 festival promises an authentic flavour of Highland culture. Blas boasts a vast programme of traditional music and events, staged in some of Scotland’s most spectacular and iconic landscapes.
